Agios Ioannis is a lengthy beach situated in the northern outskirts of Lefkada, near the capital city. It spans approximately 3 kilometers and boasts a clear shoreline with deep turquoise waters, earning it the designation of a Blue Flag beach.
The beach is well-suited for kitesurfing and windsurfing, with consistent winds from April through September and sizable waves. Agios Ioannis has established amenities, including cafes, bars, and equipment rental centers, as well as a variety of comfortable hotels and apartments near the coast.
Access to the beach is easy by car and there are equipped parking facilities available. The beach takes its name from the St. John church situated on the left side of the shore.
On the southern edge, there is a sandbank with a tavern and a beach bar. The surrounding area features the ruins of an old abandoned factory and the remnants of the once-grand Castro Castle.
The best times to visit Greece are at the end of spring or the beginning of summer, or during September and October.
Visitor reviews highlight that the beach has crystal clear water, beautiful views, and is not crowded. Visitors enjoy swimming and snorkeling early in the morning, but complain about the strong currents and waves later in the day, as well as the seaweed. Watershoes are recommended due to large rocks in the water. The beach is popular for kitesurfing and windsurfing.
