Almyropotamos Beach

Almyropotamos Beach, also known as Panagia Beach, is a popular seaside destination in South Evia, Greece. The beach is part of the Panagia seaport settlement, situated 3 km from the traditional hillside village of Almyropotamos, which has a population of around 500 residents.

The beach is known for its natural beauty and is particularly admired for its stunning evening views. A unique feature of this location is the occasional small dust devils or twisters that may occur in August, adding an interesting element to its atmosphere. Additionally, the beach is home to the Rocky springs of Almyromotamos, a significant ecological attraction housing terrapins, migrating eels, ducks, and other endemic species. The springs are formed by water flowing from limestone rocks near the beach, creating a river that flows into the sea.

The beach showcases crystal clear waters, making it an ideal spot for swimming and fishing. It is equipped with modern infrastructure, including a marina for small and large boats. There is also a regular ferry boat line connecting Almyropotamos with Agia Marina and Marathon in Attiki, offering a journey time of 45 minutes.

The surrounding area is rich in traditional Greek architecture, with old stone houses and the notable building of the former Community Office from 1860. The stone church of Agios Ioannis Theologos and the Church of Panagia, which houses two enormous 2500-year-old olive trees, add to the cultural charm of the area.

Almyropotamos Beach is an ideal destination for family holidays. There are amenities such as beach bars and picturesque tavernas for visitors to enjoy. The beachfront is also home to a complex offering furnished apartments for holidaymakers. For younger visitors, there are bars and a disco called La Luna for music and dancing.

Reaching the beach is a leisurely drive from the village of Almyropotamos. The area is surrounded by beautiful homes nestled amongst almond trees, fig trees, cypresses, and myrtle, making the journey to the beach as picturesque as the destination itself.
