Alona Beach

Alona Beach is a picturesque beach located in the farthest east of Crete. It is known for its natural beauty, with soft, clean sand and light waves. The beach is not deep, requiring visitors to walk a fair distance before they can swim. One of the most striking features of Alona Beach is the hundreds of lilies that bloom in late August and September, adding a unique charm to the landscape.

The beach is relatively untouched and wild, offering a raw and unspoiled experience for visitors. However, this also means that there are no public showers or other amenities available, so visitors are advised to bring their own supplies.

Parking is available near the beach, with a gravel parking space located a few hundred meters from the beach. To reach the beach, visitors can take a gravel road before the village of Xerokampos when approaching from Zakros. From the parking space, there is a footpath of about 400 meters down to the beach.

Alona Beach: Weather Today

📅 Thursday, April 16, 2026
Today offers a rather mediocre experience for those planning a trip to the beach. With thick clouds blanketing the sky throughout the day, you will find very little direct sunshine to enjoy. The air temperature reaches 22.1 °C, which feels pleasant, but the strong, blustery winds and choppy waves make for somewhat restless conditions along the shore. Given that the water temperature is currently 18.0 °C, the sea is far too chilly for a comfortable swim. If you still decide to head out, expect a day better suited for a brisk walk by the water rather than lounging on the sand. Please keep in mind that the breezy weather might make the shoreline feel cooler than the thermometer suggests.
