Playa de Benijo

Playa de Benijo is a captivating beach located in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, a part of the Canary Islands. Renowned for its natural beauty, this beach provides a unique and picturesque landscape, featuring the Roques de Anaga. The beach's isolation adds to its charm, making it an ideal spot for visitors seeking serenity and a chance to disconnect from the hustle and bustle of urban areas.

Situated in the Anaga Rural Park, Playa de Benijo is renowned for its photogenic qualities, with its volcanic origin setting it apart from the typical white sandy beaches in the region. The beach is characterized by its fine black sand and beautiful waves, making it a popular spot for surfing. However, due to the strong currents, visitors are advised not to venture more than waist-deep into the water.

The beach is accessible via a path that starts next to the road, with a journey time of about fifteen minutes. The path primarily consists of descending steps and may not be suitable for those who are not physically fit or elderly. While there are no facilities directly on the beach, there are several restaurants nearby where visitors can enjoy local cuisine.

Parking at Playa de Benijo can be a bit tricky as there is no dedicated parking area. Visitors usually park their vehicles along the sides of the road, making sure not to obstruct traffic. The beach is easily accessible by car, despite the somewhat challenging road featuring typical curves and ups and downs found throughout the island.

To reach Playa de Benijo from Santa Cruz de Tenerife, one needs to follow Avenida Marítima TF-11 towards San Andrés. From there, take the second exit at the roundabout towards "Taganana/Almáciga" on road TF-12. Continue on this road until reaching the town of Taganana. After passing Roque Las Bodegas beach and Almáciga beach, a sharp right turn leads to the path to Playa de Benijo.

Playa de Benijo is known to have a medium occupancy during summer and low occupancy for the rest of the year, making it less crowded compared to other beaches. However, it is worth noting that this beach is frequented by nudists. Despite its seclusion, Playa de Benijo is considered one of the top three beaches in the Canary Islands and offers visitors a chance to witness some of the best sunsets in the region.
