Plage Bonaparte

Plage Bonaparte is a picturesque beach situated in Plouha, in the Côtes d'Armor region of Brittany, France. Known for its unique combination of natural features, the beach offers a stunning blend of high cliffs, golden sand, and rock pools. These cliffs, among the highest in Brittany, provide exceptional views of the surrounding landscape and are a significant attraction for nature lovers.

The beach has a fascinating history, particularly related to World War II, when it served as the starting point for the repatriation of many allied aviators. The local French resistance, known as the Shelburne Network, hosted over 140 English, American, and Canadian aviators in the commune, helping them avoid detection and reach a boat waiting on the beach. Several plaques commemorate this significant historical event.

Access to the beach is provided through a tunnel carved into the cliff, which was initially used to aid the aviators' escape. The beach's landscape changes with the tide - at high tide, the beach consists of pebbles, but at low tide, a vast expanse of sand is revealed, providing a perfect setting for relaxation.

Apart from its historical significance and natural beauty, Plage Bonaparte also offers various amenities for visitors. There are toilet facilities available for convenience, and the beach's conditions are suitable for surfing on certain days. Despite its popularity, the beach maintains a serene atmosphere, offering a peaceful retreat for visitors.

To reach Plage Bonaparte, one must take the D786 road towards Plouézec for about 2 km and then turn right towards Kerlévénez. A parking area is available near the beach, approximately 2 km from the intersection, making it convenient for visitors travelling by car.
