Calo des Mort is a renowned beach situated in Formentera, known for its natural charm and serene atmosphere. This beach, nestled below typical sandstone cliffs, is characterized by its crystal clear waters and white sandy shoreline, making it a popular destination for visitors, despite the fact that it is relatively small and somewhat concealed.
With a length of only 20 meters and a width of 5 meters, Calo des Mort is a petite beach that can become quite crowded, especially during peak times. It can accommodate a maximum of 15 to 20 individuals on the sandy area, with additional visitors finding spots on the cliffs, beach huts, and rocks. As a result of its limited capacity, it is advisable for visitors to arrive early in the day or late in the evening to secure a spot.
Access to Calo des Mort is exclusively on foot, and can be somewhat challenging due to the steep path and rocky terrain. There are two routes to reach the beach. The more scenic route is from the beach of Es Copinar, which offers stunning views of the entire Migjorn coast. This trail takes around 10 to 15 minutes to walk. Alternatively, visitors can approach the beach from an unmarked dirt road near Hotel Riu la Mola, followed by a slippery descent to the beach. There is a rope provided for assistance during the descent, however, due to the difficulty of the terrain, it may not be suitable for the elderly or children.
Despite the absence of parking facilities in the immediate vicinity of the beach, visitors can park their vehicles approximately 800 meters away. Noisy activities such as bat and ball games are not suitable for this beach, adding to its tranquil and serene atmosphere. Despite these considerations, Calo des Mort continues to be a beloved destination in Formentera, renowned for its natural beauty and the fables of pirates and hidden treasures that add to its allure.
Best restaurants near Calo des Mort include Restaurante Casablanca, Chiringuito Bartolo, Restaurante Casa Pacha, Maysi Restaurant and Bar and La Fragata.
Visitor reviews highlight the beauty and tranquility of the beach, with its white sand and clear water being particularly appreciated. Many visitors also note that it's worth visiting despite the difficulty in accessing it due to the steep and rocky path. However, the challenging access and small size of the beach are common complaints, making it unsuitable for the elderly, children, and large groups.
