Spiaggia del Lannio

Spiaggia del Lannio is a picturesque beach located in the town of Cetara, Italy, on the renowned Amalfi Coast. It is known for its clear waters, sandy shoreline, and pebbly terrain, making it an attractive destination for both locals and tourists. The beach is divided into a private section that offers umbrellas for shade and a smaller public area. The public area, despite its size, is immaculately maintained and clean, contributing to the beach's popularity.

The name "Lannio" is derived from the word "Lannij," translating to "lament," and is associated with several legends about the beach. One such tale talks about an instance when the beach's lamentations ceased after a man found and appropriately buried some bones. Another 16th-century legend recounts the story of Arab pirates who attacked Cetara, killing those who refused to convert to their faith. The unfortunate victims included monks who had sought refuge in a nearby cave and were subsequently killed. It is said that the beach was haunted by the lamentations of these monks, with sounds of processions or masses often heard.

To reach Spiaggia del Lannio, visitors can start from a tower on the road and descend a flight of stairs that leads directly to the beach. Alternatively, the beach is accessible by car, with directions to the Amalfi Coast available from the Vietri sul Mare exit on the A3 highway. For those without a vehicle, public transportation, such as the Sita bus line from Salerno to Amalfi, is also available, passing through Cetara. Once in Cetara, there is a public paid parking lot for those who prefer to drive.

Spiaggia del Lannio, despite its size, can get crowded, particularly during peak hours. Visitors are advised to arrive early to secure a spot. The beach is best visited from morning until the afternoon as it doesn't receive sunlight after 4 pm. For refreshments, there is a conveniently located bar nearby. Despite the eerie legends associated with it, Spiaggia del Lannio is considered one of the most beautiful beaches on the Amalfi Coast.
