Cala della Cattedrale is a picturesque beach nestled in the municipality of Mattinata on the Gargano Coast. The beach is notable for its gravelly sand and pebbles, and is surrounded by a sea that exhibits a gradient of color, transitioning from azure to blue. The water is renowned for its crystal-clear quality, gradually sloping into the seabed, which contributes to the beach's reputation as one of the finest in the area.
The beach is situated in a small cove within a Protected Natural Area, enhancing its charm and allure. The natural beauty of the area extends beyond the beach itself, encompassing inlets, hidden beaches, overhangs, and pine trees that stretch to the sea. A stand-out feature of the area is the presence of Sea Caves. These are natural caves carved into the white limestone rock by the sea and wind, each with its own unique and particular attributes.
Access to Cala della Cattedrale is primarily by sea, with visitors commonly arriving by kayak, inflatable stand-up paddleboards (SUPs), or boats touring the Gargano coast. There is an alternative route through a path from above, but it is generally not recommended due to the path's dangerous and unmarked nature.
Despite the beach's captivating appeal, it is not typically crowded. Visitors often find themselves the sole occupants of the beach, adding to its serene and tranquil ambiance. However, it is important to note that there are no amenities or services available on the beach or in the immediate vicinity, underlining the beach's untouched and preserved condition.
