Situated at the mouth of the Humber Estuary, at the southern end of Cleethorpes in Lincolnshire, Humberston Fitties Beach is a picturesque stretch of golden sand. Backed by sand dunes, the beach is a conservation area, known for its pristine environment and tranquil, serene atmosphere. It offers a less crowded alternative to other tourist areas, providing a more rugged and tranquil experience.
One of the unique features of this beach is its vintage holiday chalets, some of which are made from old railway carriages. The beach also provides a view of the World War II-era Bull Sand Fort and Haile Sand Fort, located at the mouth of the River Humber. On clear days, one can see across the Humber to Spurn Point.
While the beach has limited facilities, it is a popular spot for kitesurfing, considered one of the best locations for this sport. There are no public toilets on the beach, but facilities are available for paying customers at the nearby Humber Mouth Yacht Club and Thorpe Park. The Humber Mouth Yacht Club offers facilities for various types of boating and welcomes visiting sailors.
A public bridal walkway runs along the top of the sea defense adjacent to the beach, used by dog walkers, cyclists, and bird watchers. Dogs are allowed on the beach throughout the year, although they should be kept under control due to the presence of ground-nesting birds in the area.
Access to the beach is available from the Marine Walk car park, situated behind the vacant land of the former Pleasure Island Theme Park. Additional access points to the beach include sand and concrete slipways, metal steps, and gradual slopes. A small car park is also available on Anthony's Bank Road. Parking at both locations is free of charge. Visitors, however, are advised to be mindful of the rising tide when visiting the beach.
A popular activity for visitors is to walk from Humberston Fitties Beach to Cleethorpes Pier and back, especially during favorable weather, allowing them to fully enjoy the natural beauty and serene atmosphere of the area.
