Grande Plage du Sillon is the largest beach in Saint-Malo, France, stretching over three kilometers of fine sand. It connects two neighborhoods of the city - Intra-Muros and Parame. The beach was voted the most beautiful in France in 2018. Its natural characteristics are truly remarkable, with the beach completely disappearing during high tide and becoming a very wide beach during low tide.
The beach is also very shallow, which changes a lot between high and low tide, making it suitable for kids. The dike, built from 1883 to 1913 on an old sandy beach, runs along the Grande plage. It is lined with numerous villas built at the end of the 19th century.
Along the Sillon, a line of breakwaters protects the dike from the force of the waves. These oaken breakwaters, built at the beginning of the 19th century, have a depth at least equal to or even greater than their visible height.
Best restaurants near Grande Plage du Sillon include Restaurant Le Cap Horn, Le Bouche à Oreille, Les Embruns, Le Kaziela, Le Sillon, Le Bistrot De Courtoisville and Mucho gusto.
Visitor reviews highlight the stunning beauty and size of the beach, with its fine sand and spectacular sea color, which is particularly appreciated. The beach's transformation between high and low tide, making it a shallow, child-friendly area during low tide, is also highly praised. However, visitors note that it can get cold and windy at night, even during the summer.
