Jungfernsprung

Jungfernsprung, located in Heiligenblut am Großglockner, Austria, is a stunning natural attraction featuring the highest waterfall in the Mölltal Valley. The waterfall, cascading down in three stages, reaches an impressive height of over 130 meters. A captivating legend surrounds the waterfall, telling of a maiden who, while being pursued by the devil, jumped off the vertical cliff and was miraculously saved by angels.

One can reach Jungfernsprung via a moderately difficult hiking trail that starts at the Haus der Steinböcke in Heiligenblut. The trail, which requires sturdy and non-slip shoes, winds through a stunning mix of forests, alpine meadows, and farms, and offers breathtaking views of the St. Vinzenz Church and the Großglockner mountain. Along the way, hikers pass several religious sites, including the Maria-Lourdes-Kapelle, Filialkirche Pockhorn, and Fleißkapelle. The trail also includes the Möllschlucht, a gorge that can be explored through a detour and climbing, recommended for experienced climbers.

The Jungfernsprung area also features a picturesque beach located in a green valley. The beach is known for its beautiful waterfall view, which can be reached after a short uphill walk. For those wishing to get a closer look at the waterfall, a steeper pathway equipped with wooden steps and a fence leads to a closer viewpoint. The beach also features a clear water stream where visitors can dip their feet and wooden sculptures that add to its photogenic appeal.

Visitors can reach Heiligenblut am Großglockner by car from Spittal/Drau or Lienz via Winklern, with an additional 20-minute drive to the Glocknerdorf. Alternatively, public transportation options include buses that run multiple times daily from Spittal-Winklern-Heiligenblut, with stops at the Bergbahn Talstation or Hotel Heiligenblut.

Parking is available for free at the "Schwarzen Platz" across from Hotel Heiligenblut or for a fee at the parking garage near the entrance of Heiligenblut (Haus der Steinböcke). There is also a small free parking lot located just beneath the waterfall at the beach. Despite its beauty and accessibility, Jungfernsprung is not known to be overly crowded, making it an ideal destination for those seeking a tranquil nature experience.
