Plage de la Bergère

Plage de la Bergère is a naturally beautiful and tranquil beach located in La Barre-de-Monts, in the Vendée department of the Pays de la Loire region in France. The beach is situated in the southern part of La Barre-de-Monts, within the Pays de Monts forest. The beach's name, "La Bergère," is believed to have originated from the practice of grazing animals on the dunes in the area.

The beach is known for its exceptional biodiversity, being home to a diverse range of plant and animal species that are protected. The beach offers a peaceful and serene environment where visitors can enjoy beach activities, sunbathing on the fine sand, and shrimp fishing. The beach is less crowded as you move away from the main access point and head south.

Plage de la Bergère is easily accessible. To reach the beach from Fromentine, visitors can take the D38D road towards Notre Dame and then turn left at the roundabout onto the route de la Grande Côte. After 1 km, turn right onto the route de la Corsive. The beach parking is located at the end of the road. There is a large free parking area for cars and a separate parking area for bicycles.

During the summer months of July and August, additional services are provided for visitors. The beach is supervised and there is an emergency call point along the path that connects the parking area to the beach. There are also picnic tables available along the path to the beach. Dogs and horses are allowed on the beach.

The beach is surrounded by a lush forest and dunes, providing a picturesque backdrop for visitors. It is especially beautiful at low tide, making it an ideal spot for leisurely walks. Despite its popularity, the beach is often quiet, providing a peaceful retreat for visitors.

There is a campground located a few hundred meters away for those who wish to stay overnight. Nearby, there are walking trails and attractions such as Biotopia and Jardin du Vent for visitors to enjoy. The beach's steep slope and big waves make it a favorite spot for kitesurfing. However, these conditions make it less suitable for swimming, especially for small children.
