Cala Lanuza, also known as Playa Lanuza, is a picturesque cove situated between the towns of El Campello and Villajoyosa in the province of Alicante, Spain. This beach is a popular destination during the summer months, transforming into a lively spot with music in the evenings. However, outside of the peak season, it is known for its tranquility.
The beach is characterized by its dual nature, featuring both sandy and rocky areas. The sandy portion is replenished annually with new sand, which is often thick and sticky. A small rocky mound is found in the middle of the beach, and on either side, the beach extends into rocky areas covered in seagrass and algae. The clear waters of the beach, particularly calm on certain days, make it an excellent spot for snorkeling. The diverse marine life found here includes various fish species such as doncellas, sepias, meros, rodaballos, pez soldado, and obladas.
Cala Lanuza is equipped with some amenities to enhance the visitor experience. During the summer, a beach bar, or 'chiringuito', serves food and beverages until late at night, and on certain days, live music performances add to the beach's festive atmosphere. However, the beach does not have a restaurant. Furthermore, the beach's toilet facilities are limited to a poorly maintained portable toilet.
Despite its popularity, the beach can get quite crowded, particularly during the summer months. Therefore, it is advisable to arrive early to secure a good spot. The beach's size is relatively small, making it particularly suitable for families with children as it allows for easy supervision.
Parking at Cala Lanuza is available but may not be very convenient for all visitors. The parking area consists of a sloping street where cars can line up in a row. It should be noted that dogs are not permitted on this beach.
Despite the beach's natural beauty, visitors are often faced with the issue of pollution, with plastic and trash commonly found littering the area. As such, visitors are encouraged to help maintain the beach's cleanliness by ensuring they leave it cleaner than they found it.
