Maltezi is a picturesque beach situated near the port town of Katapola on the Greek island of Amorgos, located to the northwest. Recognized as one of the finest beaches on the island, Maltezi is famous for its pristine, turquoise waters and fine sandy shoreline. A distinguishing feature of the beach is its natural sheltered cove, which offers a slightly warmer sea temperature, making it an appealing spot for swimming and snorkeling. The sea bottom here is also sandy, while the shore may have some rocky patches.
The beach, although small, is well-organized and provides various amenities for visitors. It boasts a beach bar and a small kiosk that operates during the main season. Visitors can also rent sunbeds and umbrellas, although their availability may fluctuate during the peak season. Maintenance of the beach is undertaken by the Municipality of Amorgos, who also manage the public toilet facilities on-site.
Despite its popularity, Maltezi is not usually crowded. This is attributed partially to its remote location and the limited number of boat transfers outside the peak season. However, it should be noted that the beach may see an increase in visitors during the summer months.
There are two main ways to reach Maltezi beach. Visitors can opt for a scenic 20-minute walk from Katapola through the settlement of Xylokeratidi. Alternatively, a convenient boat service operates from the port of Katapola, running every 30 or 60 minutes. This boat journey takes approximately 15 minutes and is a popular choice for many visitors due to its affordability and convenience.
Maltezi amenities include toilet and loungers.
You can enjoy a refreshing drink at one of the bars situated on the beach.
Visitor reviews highlight the beauty of the beach, with its clean, blue waters and sandy sea bottom being particularly appreciated. The availability of sunbeds and umbrellas, as well as the stunning views from nearby Saint Charalampos church, are also frequently mentioned. However, visitors complain about the poor condition of the public toilet and the lack of information about the availability of sunbeds.
