Legend has it that the beach's name, which translates to "Ox Cross", originates from an event where an Abersee farmer's ox fell into the lake and swam to the island, pulling the farmer along with it. In gratitude, a small shrine, known as a Bildstock, was erected on the island. The beach is renowned for its favorable swimming conditions.
