Pahaina Beach, also known as Pachaina, is a serene and picturesque beach located on the northern coast of Milos Island. It is a part of a tranquil beachside settlement and tourist resort that is approximately 7km away from Adamas and 3km west of Pollonia, accessible via the Adamas-Pollonia road.
The beach is known for its natural beauty, featuring a sandy shoreline lined with tamarisk trees that offer shade. The area is also characterized by a multitude of syrmata structures and private residences. One of the unique natural features of Pahaina Beach is the abundance of cool rocks, making it a popular spot for collectors. The beach also has a few houses and small caves, adding to its charm.
Despite being located in the northern region of the island, known for its windy conditions, the beach is not typically crowded. This makes it an ideal location for those seeking a calm and less crowded beach experience. Visitors often find themselves having the whole place to themselves.
The beach is easily accessible by a quad, and there is ample parking available for visitors. However, it should be noted that the beach is reached by driving from the road on a sandy, dry creek bed.
Pahaina Beach offers a few amenities for visitors, including a few beach chairs and umbrellas. However, there are no restrooms or water facilities available on the beach. The shoreline is filled with small pebbles, making it a bit challenging to sit in or wade but providing a comfortable place to sit and relax.
Though the settlement lacks mini-markets, bakeries, or news stands, there is a bus stop about 300m from Pahaina beach on the Adamas-Pollonia road, which connects Pachaina to Adamas, Pollonia, and the upper villages of Milos. This allows visitors to access other sites in Milos and go shopping in nearby areas.
Pahaina Beach is also located close to significant archaeological sites. It is near the neolithic settlement of Phylakopi, where excavations have uncovered a 5,000-year-old civilization. Additionally, the uninhabited Glaronisia islets are located within half a mile off the coast of Pahaina.
Pahaina Beach amenities include parking and loungers.
Visitor reviews highlight the tranquility and natural beauty of the beach, with its clean water, cool rocks, and few tourists making it a great spot for relaxation and rock collecting. The beach's less crowded nature and the presence of beach chairs and umbrellas add to its appeal. However, visitors complain about the lack of facilities such as restrooms and fresh water.
