Cala Pequeña

Cala Pequeña, also known as Binibèquer Vell, is a small, charming beach nestled in the southern part of Menorca, within the area of Sant Lluis. This beach is recognized for its natural beauty and tranquility, with a rocky outcrop that makes it an ideal spot for shorter visits, snorkeling, and rock-jumping. The beach also features a small cave where visitors can swim and climb up inside.

The beach is characterized by its fine white sand and crystal-clear water, which are typical of the southern beaches of Menorca. The waters are often free of algae, except when the wind blows from the east, bringing them to the coast. The depth of the water varies from shallow to approximately 3 meters, making it suitable for families with children and for swimming. The waters are also an excellent environment for observing marine life such as fish, crabs, and even octopuses.

Cala Pequeña is located near the famed Fishing Village of Binibeca Vell, known for its small ancient streets and white houses, adding to the beach's charm. The beach itself is relatively urbanized due to its proximity to the Binibèquer Nou urbanization, but it is surrounded by vegetation and coves, with no buildings on the beach except for a beach bar. Despite its urbanization, the beach still maintains a tranquil atmosphere.

Services at Cala Pequeña include a beach bar where visitors can take a break, as well as the rental of small boats such as kayaks and pedal boats. There is also a lifeguard service and an SOS booth with a flag indicating the beach's condition.

During the summer months, the beach can get crowded due to its popularity. A significant portion of the beach is occupied by rental sunbeds, leaving less space for visitors who do not want to use this service. However, a smaller cove is available for those seeking more privacy.

To reach Cala Pequeña, visitors can take a bus line from Mahón that connects to the urbanization during the summer months. If coming from Mahón or Ciutadella by car, they will need to follow specific routes towards Sant Lluis and then follow the signs to the southern beaches. The beach is easily accessible from the Carrer de S'Amfos Blau, which is about 200 meters away. However, visitors should note that accessing Cala Pequeña can be challenging due to the need to descend or climb rocks.

Visitor Reviews

Visitor reviews highlight the unique experience of the rocky beach, with many praising the clear waters and the opportunity for snorkeling, where they could see a variety of marine life including fish, crabs, and even an octopus. The presence of a natural swimming pool was also appreciated by many. However, some visitors complained about the difficult access due to the need to climb or descend rocks.
