Petrel Cove Beach

Petrel Cove Beach is a small, picturesque beach known for its beautiful rock formations and strong currents. The beach is easily accessible with a car park located at the top of the area and a short walk down a set of stairs leading to the cove. However, visitors should be cautious as the beach is not ideal for swimming, especially for young children, due to its rocky nature and unpredictable currents.

The beach's natural characteristics seem to fluctuate over time, alternating between a rocky and sandy landscape every few years. This phenomenon, though not fully understood, adds a unique charm to the beach. The beach is also home to a variety of rocks, including round granite boulders and shards of folded and metamorphosed sand and siltstone. These rocks, further away from The Bluff, have retained their original deposition bands and signs of turbulence, offering a fascinating glimpse into the area's geological history.

In addition to its natural beauty, Petrel Cove Beach offers a few amenities for visitors. There is a path leading down to the cove, and another path leading to a nearby beach located approximately 600 meters to the north-west. This path offers a pleasant walk and leads to King Head. West Island, another notable landmark, is also close enough to be seen from the beach. Despite its small size, Petrel Cove Beach is not typically crowded, offering a private and peaceful beach experience.
