Racó del Conill

Racó del Conill, also referred to as La Vila Joiosa or Villajoyosa, is a picturesque nudist-friendly cove nestled in the town of La Vila Joiosa, Alicante. Renowned for its natural beauty, the cove stands out due to its untouched environment, a rarity in the eastern part of the Iberian Peninsula due to extensive urban development. The cove's crystal-clear waters make it one of the most stunning spots on the Costa Blanca and a popular destination for snorkeling enthusiasts.

The cove is flanked by cliffs and small coastal mountains adorned with pine trees and shrubs. With a width of less than 100 meters, the cove is relatively small and is divided into two sections by a rocky promontory. The sandy beach may change due to weather conditions and storms. The seabed is home to a significant meadow of oceanic seagrass, known as posidonia oceánica, which contributes to the cleanliness and crystalline appearance of the water.

Racó del Conill has been a favored spot for nudism since the 1970s. While it has traditionally been a gathering place for the LGBTQ+ community, the cove's popularity on social media has led to an influx of clothed visitors. Recent developments include the installation of a beach bar with music, a move that some argue detracts from the cove's natural state.

The cove features a sizable parking area accessible via an asphalt road. Located approximately 5 kilometers north of the urban center of Villajoyosa, it is situated near the more tourist-friendly Cala de Finestrat. A scenic hiking route leads to Racó del Conill and provides breathtaking views of the cove. Nearby, visitors can explore the Torre del Aguiló, a 16th-century watchtower that forms part of the defensive network along the Mediterranean coast.

Despite its natural beauty, Racó del Conill does lack some amenities, including changing rooms and showers. The beach is also known to get crowded, which may limit available space. Accessing the beach can be somewhat challenging and may involve a long walk, making it potentially unsuitable for those who prefer easy beach access. To reach Racó del Conill, visitors can use the N-332a road and access the parking area near the former Villajoyosa casino's abandoned building.
