Sarıkum Plajı

Sarıkum Plajı is a renowned beach located within a natural protected area in Sarıkum Village, approximately 21 kilometers from the city of Sinop in Turkey. It is nestled within a 489-hectare expanse that encompasses a variety of ecosystems, including a sea, coast, dunes, a lake, wetland, and forest. This diverse blend of landscapes has led to the region being declared a Nature Conservation Area in 1987.

The beach is known for its sandy terrain and clear, shallow waters, making it a popular spot for visitors to observe marine life such as fish and crabs. The area's natural beauty is further highlighted by the unique sandy topography, contrasting with the green vegetation of the Sinop Peninsula. The beach is part of the Sarıkum protected area, which includes Sarıkum Lake, a lagoon lake formed by the accumulation of sand dunes due to wind movement. The lake is connected to the sea through a narrow channel.

Despite its popularity, Sarıkum Plajı is noted for its lack of amenities. There are no public institution services or toilet facilities available on the beach, and cleanliness can be an issue, with visitors often leaving behind garbage. Despite these shortcomings, the beach can become quite crowded, especially during peak seasons.

The beach is accessible via a road through Sarıkum Village. However, visitors should note that the alternative route from Ayancik is in poor condition, with many pebbles making the journey challenging.

Visitors also have the option to camp in the nearby forests, though they should be prepared for possible encounters with wildlife, including jackals. The area has seen afforestation efforts to stabilize the moving sands, further enhancing its appeal as a camping site.
