Saronida Beach

Saronida Beach is a coastal area located within the smallest municipal unit of the Municipality of Saronikos, approximately 18km from Kalyvia. It is nestled between the regions of Lagonissi and Anavyssos and was historically part of the Municipality of Aegilia, Attica during the era of Cleisthenes. The area, formerly known as "Pefka Gkiournta", was renamed "Saronis" in 1965 and has since evolved into a popular sea resort and a modern place of permanent residence for approximately 3,000 residents, largely due to its mild Mediterranean climate.

The beach itself is small and scenic, attracting a significant number of visitors, including families and the elderly, particularly during the summer months. Despite its size, it is a public beach and free to access, although visitors are advised to bring their own amenities such as umbrellas and chairs for comfort. The beach's natural characteristics include a beautiful seascape that invites quick swims or snorkeling. However, the scenic beauty is somewhat tarnished by the presence of litter and rotting sea grass in several places, as well as a storm drain.

The beach is easily accessible and located close to the town's residential area, making it a convenient location for a beach outing. However, the beach's proximity to a busy highway can result in a considerable amount of traffic noise. The lack of maintenance by local authorities is also a concern for some visitors.

In terms of crowd levels, Saronida Beach tends to become quite crowded during the summer months. The quality and quantity of the crowd can significantly impact the overall beach experience. Despite these challenges, Saronida Beach continues to hold a special charm for its visitors, with its historic machine-gun nests and a magnificent seaside hiking trail, considered one of the most beautiful peri-urban trails in Greece.

Visitor Reviews

Visitor reviews highlight the beauty and tranquility of the beach, with many appreciating its location and the sea. However, they also express dissatisfaction with the noise from the nearby highway, the lack of maintenance resulting in litter and broken infrastructure, and the quality of the crowd during the summer.
