Strandbad Mythenquai

Strandbad Mythenquai is a popular recreational beach located in Zurich, Switzerland. It's known for its unique natural features including a 250-meter sandy stretch, making it the only sandy beach in Zurich. The beach offers stunning views of Lake Zurich and the Alps, which enhance its scenic beauty.

The beach is open from March to September, with operating hours extending from 7 am to 8 pm. The hours are shortened to 11 am to 8 pm during favorable weather conditions. In winter months, entry to the beach is free, though the swimming area is only open as long as there is sufficient light for supervision.

Strandbad Mythenquai is a family-friendly destination with a spacious area that is suitable for children of all ages. It features a triple-decker diving board and a 5-meter jump tower, providing a fun and refreshing way to cool down on hot summer days. There's also a dock for swimming and sunbathing, and a nearby playground for children to enjoy.

The beach offers a range of amenities including a restaurant/cafe, massage services, and recreational activities such as beach volleyball, table tennis, and stand-up paddleboarding. A stand-up paddle rent service is also available for those interested in water sports.

On weekends and particularly during hot weather, Strandbad Mythenquai attracts thousands of visitors, making it a bustling spot. Despite its popularity, the beach maintains a helpful and friendly atmosphere, with a system in place for returning lost items to their owners.

Parking facilities are provided for visitors' convenience, and the beach accepts credit cards for transactions. There are different admission prices for adults, teenagers, and children, and discounts are available for certain groups, including people with disabilities and Zurich residents with a KulturLegi card.

Over the years, Strandbad Mythenquai has transformed in line with the evolution of bathing culture in Zurich. It initially had separate sections for men and women, which were removed shortly after its opening. In 1951, the beach was rebuilt following a fire incident. More recently, a vegetarian restaurant was established near the grill stand.
