Tamariu Beach

Tamariu Beach is a picturesque beach situated in the municipality of Palafrugell, in Girona, Catalonia, Spain. This urban beach, nestled within an old fishing village, boasts a charming and idyllic natural environment. The beach is set in a bay, offering a captivating mix of colors and light reflections on the sea and surrounding cliffs.

The beach is 40 meters wide and 180 meters long, characterized by moderate waves and golden sand. Its sand is mid-sized, providing a comfortable surface for beachgoers. The beach is named after the "tamarius" trees that grow on both sides of a nearby river, remnants of which can still be found along the promenade.

Tamariu Beach is known for its amenities. Visitors can enjoy showers for both body and feet, making it convenient to clean up after a day in the sand and sea. The beach is equipped with a range of services typically offered at a beach, including bars, restaurants, a diving club, a sailing club, and kayak rentals. The clear and transparent waters of the beach make it an ideal spot for underwater activities. A boat taxi service is also available for those arriving by yacht.

The beach has parking with over 100 unguarded spaces, although it's noteworthy that parking can be challenging during peak season due to the beach's popularity. Access to the beach is easy by foot, car, or boat, with the nearest road being the C-31, GIV-654. However, getting to the beach might require a bit of a walk as there are no direct transport facilities from the nearest bus station in Palafrugell, which is about 4 kilometers away.

During the high season, Tamariu Beach tends to be crowded. Despite its popularity, the beach maintains its cleanliness, with clear water inviting visitors for a swim. However, swimming may not always be possible due to the presence of jellyfish at certain times.

Tamariu Beach also has two small corners on each side. On the right side, there is Cala dels Lliris, a 45-meter-long cove that houses an old communal hut from the 19th century where fishermen store their fishing gear. On the left side, there is Cala Aigua Dolça, a 25-meter-long cove accessed through the coastal path that runs through Tamariu. This cove is home to a fountain of the same name, and beyond it lies Punta Rubia.

The beach has a promenade for walking along the coast, and the coastal path continues on both sides of Tamariu, leading to other areas in Palafrugell.
