Badestrand Altnau

Badestrand Altnau is a picturesque and freely accessible beach situated in Altnau, an idyllic apple village in Thurgau, Switzerland. The beach is known for its two distinct sections: one for families and individuals without dogs, and a separate area designated as a dog beach, making it a unique destination on the Swiss side of Lake Constance.

The beach is surrounded by a large grassy area shaded by poplar trees and offers a mix of sand and stones, providing ample space for relaxation and play. For children, there is a variety of play equipment stored in a box that can be used in the sand.

One of the key features of the beach is the nearly 300-meter-long pier, the longest on Lake Constance. Known as the "Stiel" (stem) of the apple village, the pier includes a small platform where visitors can jump into the water and sunbathe. In addition, the beach offers several other entry points into the water, including a large swimming island.

Badestrand Altnau is well-equipped with amenities such as a shower for rinsing off after a swim, barbecue areas for communal grilling, and toilet facilities. Visitors can also enjoy a variety of food options from a bistro-like trailer offering drinks, small dishes, and sweets. Free sanitary facilities are available, and there are provisions for safe storage of personal belongings.

The beach can be easily reached by public transportation, such as the Bodenseeschifffahrt (Lake Constance shipping) to Altnau station, or by train or bus to Altnau, with the beach being a short walk away. For those driving, paid parking facilities are conveniently located nearby.

Despite its popularity, especially on weekends, which can lead to it being quite crowded, there is no entrance fee to access the beach. Badestrand Altnau remains a beloved destination for both locals and tourists, offering a serene setting for relaxation and recreation on the shores of Lake Constance.
