Honokohau Harbour Beach is a beach situated on the west shore of the Big Island in Hawaii, USA. It is characterized by its unique salt-and-pepper sand that contains crushed seashells, coral, and lava rock fragments. The beachfront has a low lava shelf and a shallow, rocky ocean floor.
The presence of an offshore fringing reef provides protection to the beach, making it a suitable location for snorkeling. An additional attraction is a trail leading to Queen's Bath, a brackish-water pool situated about 600 feet (180 m) north of the northern end of Honokohau Beach, behind rock mounds. Some visitors use the pool to rinse off after swimming in the ocean.
Visitor reviews highlight that Hapuna at Mauna Kea Resort is a great place to see green turtles and other underwater animals, with no entrance fee and an easy walk to the beach. However, some visitors complain that it's not the best for swimming. The beach near the marina area is also good for seeing sea turtles, but not the prettiest. Honokohau Beach offers plenty of opportunities for walking along the shoreline, while offering pleasing portions. Visitors also like the beautiful beach with turtle sightings, but it's not ideal for swimming.
